Garden foundations and friends

Garden foundations and friends

Greetings fae folk, today we’ll be exploring the foundational steps and planning involved in creating Tenderpaw’s secret garden.

From the earliest stages of our adorably determined garden committees first meetings we could tell that nearly all the critters of Selkie Cove were buzzing about Tenderpaw’s project. Letters streamed in from far and wide, with many clans sharing ideas on what they felt should be included. Our aquatic kin mentioned a need for more wetland and pond, while many of the clans to the north agreed that the coves evergreens were in need of tlc. We also heard from this years team of Humble bumbles that it can be difficult finding sources of early season nectar, which they need for fuel while they pollinate our worlds many plants. Even the wormies wiggled their way up top to remind us how important nutritious soil is to the natural worlds ecosystem, not to be overlooked.

As we pondered how best to meet the needs of The Coves diverse, fantastical, and in some cases quite magical creatures the garden committee came to the conclusion that the only solution is to go BIGGER! Bit by bit we intend to revitalize and cultivate Selkie Cove into the coziest darn fantasy realm possible! For what are we without our sweet critter friends?

Keeping in mind that each journey begins with just one step, our garden committee gleefully dove into designing Tenderpaw’s secret garden; narrowing down the varieties of plants for this season as well as scrawling a simple guide, using procreate on the iPad.

It took a bit of convincing, as mouselings tend to have quite a bit of get up and go - while lacking much slow down and plan, but in the end we all agreed to add bits of pertinent information to our doodled design; whether a plant is an annual (A), hardy annual (HA), biennial (B), or perennial (P), as well as their height.

Then we mapped out a few of our first critter friendly projects, including a reading nook for Tenderpaw, and a diy bee bath for our Humble bumbles, and got to work readying the ground for our sprouts.

See you next time! When we get our paws muddy and plants in the dirt!

Selkie Fae
